Consumers are moving towards value-driven purchases as peak sales seasons begin with end-of-financial-year (EOFY) sales, according to new data from Shopify.
The company saw the number of consumers in Australia buying from Shopify merchants in June increasing by 18.1 per cent as compared to the same period last year.
This comes after the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) released projections showing Australians would spend $10.5 billion over the sales period, up 3.9 per cent from last year.
Shopify found sales of pet supplies, maternity clothing and baby essentials increasing in the EOFY sales, with consumers capitalising on discounted pricing for big-ticket home and family necessities.
“Across the Shopify platform, we saw an 18.1 per cent year-on-year jump in the number of Australian shoppers in June, proving the EOFY sales period has become a strategic moment for merchants to win price-conscious shoppers and build lasting loyalty,” said James Johnson, Shopify head of enterprise ANZ and Apac.
“The surge in home and family essentials – from orthopaedic pet beds to convertible strollers and carriers – shows Australians are willing to invest in what matters most, but only from brands that provide true value,” he said.
